A Chance Encounter

Driving through my hometown all alone,
I came across someone I used to know.
Down on hands and knees, she seems to be
looking for something.

Walking up from down by Setter's Pier,
I said "Hello, what's going on down there?"
She looks up and sighs. She wipes her eyes.
She has lost her lens.

You don't need them anymore, my dear.
See it for yourself, your eyes are clear.

She peers around at scenery and such.
I tell her, "See? It doesn't blur that much."
Turns once more to me... "Oh, please don't leave."
She has missed my point.

You don't need them anymore, my dear.
See it for yourself, your eyes are clear.
Sometimes disability is only in your mind.
We just like to think that we're not fine.

Driving through my hometown all alone (all alone, all alone).
Driving through my hometown all alone (all alone, all alone).
All alone, all alone.

Miss Marylou Carreau

She caught the bug, she's having nightmares
She bought a mug of bubbles from a bauble-hawker at the bazaar,
supposedly an ex-czar from lands afar.

Her paperback should be inspected
She took it back, renouncing every syllable
and carefully crafted clause
they may call her daft,
they may be calling her daft

Her body's a household, the fave of a race
in tunnels and canyons, crave and savor the taste
singing "Ah ooh, we love it here in famous Miss Marylou Carreau"

The editor is incrementing
her now ignored automatic attendent
M.I.A. on the floor, amid discarded decor
and pages torn.

And we, the inhabitants,
love it love it love it
'cause she's shaking the world less
she's shaking the world so much less than before
Miss Marylou Carreau Carreau

Her body's a household, the fave of a race
in tunnels and canyons, crave and savor the taste
singing "Ah ooh, we love it here in famous Miss Marylou Carreau"
We are alive, we got her heart beat
She's got a family, all fifteen flaws in the brain
like everyone else we never get back

My My (Bad Fruit)

All the waterfalls kick up the mist and lay the haze
on some little island off the coast of un muy hermoso bay
And the Mexicans married the box and Remedios
Tragically, she ended after an apocalyptic dose

My my, oh you sad, sad satellite
Godspeed rotten apple of my eye
Bad fruit, you're a waste of space in the jar
My my, can't you say goodbye?

All the clouds came down, dressed up in heat lightning and slacks
They filed in the ampitheater bantering in social packs
And the maestro (the conductor) frowned, noting the audience all adults
suddenly conducted a symphony of a billion volts

My my, oh you sad, sad satellite
Godspeed rotten apple of my eye
Bad fruit, you're a waste of space in the jar
My my, can't you say goodbye?

Every window crashed, shattered down from every skyscraper
within the city limits.
Oh, what a day. Oh, what a din it's been.
And the office ogres all turned to granite
as the unfiltered sunlight hit them for the first time ever
and the last time.

So we wait for day to come
but the sun won't show it's face
and our bodies grow indistinct
til we all just fade away.

100 Years

Why do we all grow old?
Why do we buy the seeds of elderly?
I want to break that mold
Fuck aging gracefully, I'm gonna be

kicking and screaming and always dreaming
about tomorrow's fun
and even after 100 years I'll never feel quite done

Why even write a will?
'Cause we will never die if we don't
resign to a life fulfilled.
Can't you at least find one space in yourself

that's not been filled, you can't be killed yet
because your book's not done
And even after 100 years you'll never feel quite done

Don't live a double life,
shoot many multiples above two

Oh, we found a greenhouse blown to smithereens
"What a scene," said a dark traveling companion
(Kicking, screaming, always dreaming)

That's when I noticed my shadow seemed to have gone missing again
and my best new friend was smiling
I could see every tooth in him
That's when I noticed the foolishness that I'd been harping upon
been going on and on and on
all along.

Intimidation

I got bloodied up good, really good,
like you should, at least once in your life
so you know

nothing really hurts
nothing really hurts that much

it's a con, it's a con
intimidation, intimidation
only there for a second, then it's gone.

Chemical Dress Eliza

"Cold"
cover blue... dusted...
alone
stutter in echo... head
sun, open eye
i think, i blink

All over everything just got weird.
That's what Understanding brought
I am it's newest friend
(mine to build, to bend)
He made a silence end.

Skies eyes, the dirty night lights
as the sun comes to turn it's salty shapes into sights
that burn and break my sweat,
(we dancing lamp-lit steps,
we'll never let you rest)

Chemical dress Eliza
in the road, in the way
until the atoms seize her,
with roses and molecular lows

Cold, cold because of frigid ice
I am the cold icicle, I wanna fall
and pierce a person through
I have no choice but to

Of suns and burning feet,
my heaving ice in heat...
she crests the stairwell
holding her coat. Oh, so cold as I let go

Chemical dress Eliza
in the road, in the way
until the Adams seize her,
with roses and molecular lows

Crack!
Shattered, battered, blue...
alone...
The phase is passing through
I, the pointless, pray,
"Frost come, frost stay"

Lights Off

Light rays never stop spending their days
bouncing off her in the right ways.
They hit my eyes and the world goes hazy.
Brain says, "Listen up, we gotta move."
Body navigates the whole room.
We're trading smiles and the words are forming, forming

So tell me, how much of you disappears when I turn the lights off?

Not exactly what I meant to say but it'll do
It's a valid question for you
If I strip away the fashion, what do we get?
Eyes closed, how about we have a day
undistracted by the light rays?
I want to see if I can find you
minus the style and the hair and the make-up

So tell me, how much disappears when I turn the lights off?

The World is Smaller Than You Think

If you don't know why you're here, join the club.
All humanity has already signed up.
If you cannot sleep at night for fright of being this lonely forever,
remember, that we are all in the same boat.

The world is smaller than you think

If you figure yourself out, bite your tongue.
You'll just make us all get jealous and we don't want that.

The world is deeper than you know

If you've fallen out of love,
if your wide eyes went narrow
then call me, sometime.
We'll have a good time, 'cause we'll fake it.

And we'll make it through somehow
we will make it through somehow
and we'll finally be let down
from the marble pedestals that we stand on.

The world is smaller than you think

Mr. Charm

"There is a book, a book, a very special book
and it hooks you on the first look"
a man said this to me on the street
(it'll change your life)

"Yes, yes but who are you tell me of a book?"
I said, with a skeptical look.
"Oh oh, oh oh, I'm Mister Charm."

Oh, Mister Charm, Mister Charm.

My mister Ears could not believe themselves for years and years
they checked into a clinic for the weird
we finished talking with morse code
(dot dot, dit dit, dot dot dit dit dot dot [dot dit])

La la la la la
Mr. Charm

He quoted Machiavelli, it took a while
and he smiled as we tapped out treatise on a tile
but I could never ever want to leave.

And so, and so I never left
Wait no, I guess I must've left
but those things I tend to forget
I don't know exactly when I left.

Oh Mr. Charm, Mr. Charm

I Spy

They put me out to pasture,
the faceless cowards of conspiracy.
I wonder why they're after me.

Searching for the answers,
but the shadows have signed contracts with the spies
to help them serve a nasty surprise.

I cannot sleep, cause if I close my eyes I will die
by the hands of hidden spies
that lie waiting in the shadow
my, oh my, why?

They're crawling on the ceiling
and sabotaging every filament.
The light's not been the same since.

My things are slightly shifted
I hear the mongrels bark when no one's there
The children stop their playing and stare

I cannot sleep, cause if I close my eyes I will die
by the hands of hidden spies
that lie waiting in the shadow
my, oh my, why?

I'm tired too tired to talk anymore
You've got the wrong guy
I swear I don't know nothing about nothing
I'm no threat to you
You've gotta believe me, you've gotta leave me be
You've got the wrong guy
I'm tired too tired to talk anymore

Life's Cornucopia

Life's cornucopia,
mouth all a'gushing green.
Full, every feaster fades.
Fog framed in rain.

Sir, s'that a watch you wear?
Ma'am, with your bird feather hair!
You shells! You complacent snails!
Stoned, slumped and stale!

Are you starving?
This is a poison plate
cooked by the face run numbered grinning gates.
You can refuse, be saved.
Would it be nice to buy some time to...

sit and stare for days at stars and lights on satellites,
your eyes going dry but never quite
glossing over?
Though shades of place may lose it's sight
till your mindless,
why not be timeless?

Life's cornucopia,
spilling out, spilling out

Carousel! Carousel!

When I look at the sky and blue goes grey,
well I don't let that stop me.
I keep tipping my hat as beauties pass
and wispy wonders watch through the rafters.

There's no need to be scared,
they're watching over our exquisite black tie affair.
Give me carousel, make me six, maybe seven
I'll watch them popping overhead
in the red rays of lazy days
We all laugh because that's how we're raised.
Don't ask questions kids just laugh

and don't ask us
when you wonder why the sun burns
or where the clocks learned
how to control rising falling
bodies all the clouds clothe.
I don't know where.

Woke today, we all felt the same
sleepy strange and sad
Where do we stand?
so ends the ball, we're all very small
memories got blurred
Oh every word is gone.

Now the ghosts have gone onto a different place
Oh every word is gone
Now the ghosts have gone, we grow a different face
Dead, wrong.
Staring at four walls.

The sun comes up it's a new day
and we're not laughing anymore, anymore.
We found the fountain dry
stop kidding ourselves
the way that we grow, and later we go

The sun comes up it's a new day,
and we're not laughing
